I mean, they have a certain style of show. If it doesn't work for you, it doesn't work for you. But I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Making cheap, slightly trashy, slightly pulpy stuff with great-looking casts is a fine methodology and a lot of people enjoy it and I don't think anyone is really going into it with their eyes closed, you know?

I love me some eye candy show. That was the reason I started watching Supernatural.

Seconded so hard

I do love eye candy. SPN is the only CW show that works for me in that way, though. Most of the others people are a bit too young for my tastes.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
There are shows out there where the casts aren't good looking? I can only think of one show and that's British.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
There are degrees of it, though.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Can you give me an example? I'm a bit face blind, and I can never tell how attractive people are supposed to be.

Just realized I don't even know what's on CW these days, besides SPN. (And a couple DC shows, I think?)

Anyway, I love me some complex, pretentious drama with A+ writing (Hannibal), but sometimes entertaining eye-candy is what you need, and is quite satisfying in its own right, and I don't think there's anything distasteful about that. I've followed a fair amount of these type of shows over the years (SPN, Teen Wolf, now Shadowhunters), and I think as long as you get something out of them, that's a perfectly good reason to watch. The show doesn't have to be a masterpiece to be worth airing, or watching.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be pleased if the only options we had on television were eye-candy (And not much else), but I don't mind those shows existing or having an audience.

Shadow hunters is an interesting sounding title?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
Shadowhunters is the one based off of Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series.

I mean, CW shows are about super hot hotties either having supernatural issues or just sleeping around with everyone else on the show. If that's not your jam, watch a different channel. Fox shows are about assholes who are intensely competent at their jobs but nothing else, CBS shows are all about really good people who are all fighting rapists and murderers, etc.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Hah, love this comment. You are seriously good at summaries!

I don't have that channel but I watch a couple of shows like that because sometimes all I want to watch is absurdly pretty people going around kicking butt(in whichever way they do that).

But if that's not your jam that's cool, don't watch what you don't like. It's why I stay clear of cop shows most of the time.

I guess Jane the Virgin is the one that stands out as a bit of an exception to this in my mind.

Must be so hard to be the only enlightened individual in your generation.

I know I'm impressed by OP's ability not to cut themselves on their own edge.

low budget genre shows on any network are going to have those things in common

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
The only thing worth watching are these shows:

Supergirl, The Flash and Jane the Virgin

The ones to avoid are Arrow (except seasons 1 and 2. 3 and 4 were abysmal) and Legends of Tomorrow (too cheesy to the point that the writing is as abysmal as Once Upon a Time).

I'm with you, OP. CW shows are the worst. Somehow that network has remained completely immune to the Golden Age of TV.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
I lol'd.

That actually sounds like SyFy movies

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Except that some of the cast is not young (probably someone who used to be on a popular show a while ago or that character actor that's all over the place, but never quite makes to their own popular show) and some that are not Hollywood good looking.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
The only show on CW that I watch is Whose Line is it Anyway.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, my respect for the network's quality plummeted after Gossip Girl and vanished completely after they okayed Reign/

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe try iZombie?
