... except for the slut shaming and whole religion thing and then... uh, what's left that's all social justicey?

Defending the poor and disenfranchised? But yeah, the comparison does not quite stand.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what he claims to be doing. Whether or not he's actually doing it... well, that's kind of ambiguous. Most of the show focuses on his attacks on the Lannisters/Tyrells, not running a soup kitchen. Also, he doesn't include prostitutes among the "poor and disenfranchised" that supposedly needs defending.

Well, we don't know his long game. But looking at it from the position of the people of King's Landing, he's probably a damn good alternative to the Lannisters (but yeah, obviously he's still a zealot who dislikes non-marital sex.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure he's a good alternative to the Lannisters, tbh. Though the Lannisters are bastards, they're not seeking to police peoples' morals. The High Sparrow most definitely is. He's just a different kind of autocratic ruler one who isn't hindered by political/marriage alliances or a council of peers. That's basically a religious dictatorship.

True, but i'm talking about the living standard of poor people in this universe. Which is shit. And might be better under someone like High Sparrow.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It might be, but what has he done so far for the poor? I think it's pretty telling that he's already established himself as a powerful authority in King's Landing but you need to look at what he's using that power for. And so far, most of what he's done is create the Faith Militant as his personal army to destroy brothels and try to manipulate the nobles via imprisoning their family members. How is that helping the living standard of poor people?

I seem to vaguely recall him feeding the poor when he was first introduced, but I might need to rewatch?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt

I do too, kallanda_lee. The first time we see him, there was some kind of soup-kitcheny thing going on.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen many SJW who kink shame. And kink shaming is basically the same as slut shaming (ie shaming someone for how they have consensual sex).

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Different contexts, different rationales, but don't let facts get in the way of your Le Reddit Army logic.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
lol nah.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Lol not its not, try again.

Ironically, the people I see clutching their pearls over """kink-shaming"""are ussually the first ones to start openly slut shaming others.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Social justice is a religion. And it treats errant women like shit.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Try again.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
A religion practiced by a small handful of people on tumblr, mostly. Weird how you're so threatened by something that barely touches the real world.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Excuse me for not wanting my biggest hobby overrun by dogpiling zealots trying to nanny and shame everyone into following their One True Way.

And you're terribly blind if you think it's a small group or exclusive to tumblr.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
They are though.

Please find your chill, because no one is ever gonna take you seriously if you keep up this, "all scary boogeyman SJWs are after me!!!" attitude.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
You mean you aren't going to take me seriously. Which is no big loss.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Whatever helps your delusional mind sleep at night. 👍

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not a religion, but it is an ideology, and a damaging one.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
The strong component of morality is what leads me to call it a religion.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Most ideologies do. Communism moralizes in that it wants everyone 'equal,' but that by itself does not make a religion, even if people devote their lives (and other people's lives) to it. I see where you're coming from, but precision is helpful.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Well, they all sound like fundamentalist Christians to me. ;)

Although even Christianity allows for atonement and forgiveness. If you run afoul of the social justice crowd, you're a piece of shit for life.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Well, conservative Christian here. ;) Christianity does allow for forgiveness, which I think is really important to any kind of system of thought about how we live, because people will never be perfect.

I think it also makes social justice very unstable, and is the primary reason they eat their own. So much emphasis is placed on saying and doing the right thing AND in emphasizing the tiniest of issues as major ones that no one can actually live up to it's standards. So while I think it's really damaging, I also think it won't last. It's just too self-destructive.

(Of course, you've got the major hypocrites, and people willing to excuse hypocrisy, but overall I think it's doomed regardless because it's way too fun to attack other people.)
