Defending the poor and disenfranchised? But yeah, the comparison does not quite stand.

That's what he claims to be doing. Whether or not he's actually doing it... well, that's kind of ambiguous. Most of the show focuses on his attacks on the Lannisters/Tyrells, not running a soup kitchen. Also, he doesn't include prostitutes among the "poor and disenfranchised" that supposedly needs defending.

Well, we don't know his long game. But looking at it from the position of the people of King's Landing, he's probably a damn good alternative to the Lannisters (but yeah, obviously he's still a zealot who dislikes non-marital sex.

I'm not sure he's a good alternative to the Lannisters, tbh. Though the Lannisters are bastards, they're not seeking to police peoples' morals. The High Sparrow most definitely is. He's just a different kind of autocratic ruler one who isn't hindered by political/marriage alliances or a council of peers. That's basically a religious dictatorship.

True, but i'm talking about the living standard of poor people in this universe. Which is shit. And might be better under someone like High Sparrow.

It might be, but what has he done so far for the poor? I think it's pretty telling that he's already established himself as a powerful authority in King's Landing but you need to look at what he's using that power for. And so far, most of what he's done is create the Faith Militant as his personal army to destroy brothels and try to manipulate the nobles via imprisoning their family members. How is that helping the living standard of poor people?

I seem to vaguely recall him feeding the poor when he was first introduced, but I might need to rewatch?

nayrt

I do too, kallanda_lee. The first time we see him, there was some kind of soup-kitcheny thing going on.
