I've seen speculation that the deal between Marvel and Fox was that Marvel would get Scarlet Witch and Fox would get Quicksilver, but Marvel got Quicksilver for one movie on the condition that they killed him off, or something like that. Because there was a dispute about whether they were more X-Men characters or more Avengers characters, so they ended up splitting them up, I guess. I don't know if that's true, but it seems plausible.
