It can be a little weird to idol worship so much that people feel like a famous person who said fans don't know are upset like they have lost a close friend or family member, but at the same time, death is a difficult thing to talk about or to even think about. So yeah, the whole "I'm sad that a famous person died," is more reflective of the fan than the actual famous person, but I feel like it's needed. People don't like to feel sad and it's hard to deal with it and I think it's a good thing to be willing to acknowledge your feelings and it's probably a good thing to see that there are other people out there who feel the same way. It's part of being human, and most people are genuine in going through a feeling of sadness at hearing about someone famous they like pass away. It's not like everyone wants to display sadness to make themselves feel better about themselves, at least not knowingly, but more subconsciously.

Also, as someone else said, people are genuinely sad when they hear someone they like has passed for many reasons and who are you to say they're disingenuous just because you don't feel the same?
