Huh, I would have thought your hopes were the majority's. But then, they seem like they'd be more popular with the fandom on Tumblr than on Reddit.

Iunno, maybe, but this fandom does draw a lot of contrariness. The plot points they want are (largely) predictable, but ASoIaF is basically known for not being predictable, and happy endings being hard to come by. I think a lot of the fanbase is really into the contrary and crazy?

That fits with what I've seen. Reddit has a vocal population (couldn't say if they're minority or majority) that's pretty obsessed with GRRM breaking all the tropes and being as unpredictable as possible. And one that's pretty derisive of female characters who aren't Arya.

Most of the other fandom spaces I see have hopes that mostly align with OP's. Many of them make narrative sense.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-26 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. GRRM treats a lot of female characters like humans, but writes with a lot of unintentional sexism. GRRM's reddit fans don't even treat most female characters like humans.

Arya? I fucking hope Arya goes full villain and kills someone everybody loves. I kinda hoped (before she go herself fired from the faceless men) that she'd be sent to kill Jon.

But Jon dying, Cersei repenting, Sansa actually being a good adviser and Tyrion dying unloved are all trope breakers. Following tropes, Jon will get a HEA as a great king, Cersei will die a horrible death her villainy deserves, Sansa would be window dressing and Tyrion would be one of Jon's most trusted, respected advisers.

It'll never happen, but I could enjoy Cersei having a come to Jesus. I can think of no better punishment than crushing guilt.

Wow, I think you just perfectly summed up all the things I DON'T want to happen. And most of them because those are the prevalent fandom opinions and many of them annoy the fuck out of me.

The GOT fandom is basically an unpleasant cancer on every discussion platform tbh.

Lol, I want Tyrion to be happy, dammit.

And I'm iffy on the whole Jon/Dany thing, but I DO want them to be related.

Dany should be queen and Jon should be Lord of the North with his sisters at his side (and no, not like that. i just want the Starks to be happy and at HOME).

SANSA DESERVES HAPPINESS.

Ayra does, too.

Cersi can die, honestly.

Jamie needs to get over his thing for his sister and just ADMIT HE LOVES BRIENNE. Though I also kind of like the idea of Tormund and Brienne...

Okay, I must say my previous comment is uninformed, because I hadn't seen any of the 6:10 reviews yet.

Okay, now I've watched a couple of reviews...

Jon/Dany is doable by Targaryen rules, but the real question is would Jon go with that?

Sansa deserves happiness with a husband she actually wants.

I still want Jaime to kill Cersei though.

Yeah, by Targaryen rules, true, but...yuck.

I guess Sansa as Queen of the North, but the shit she's been through can make me see her not wanting that role. Though that can also apply to Jon as well. Either one would work, though, so long as they are HOME.

Ayra as Wolf of the North can work well. Yep. Very well actually.

Tyrion as anyone's advisor/Hand is awesome. D:

I am HOPING that that look Jamie gave Cersie means he's finally gonna MOVE ON from her. Though I kind of REALLY want Ayra to kill Cersie and Jamie just go be with Brienne.

Yeah, my fondness for incest fic aside, I think Jon/Dany can work because of the Westermark Effect. They don't know each other, they didn't grow up together, so the aversion the Westermark Effect refers to wouldn't exist between them. However the reason I wonder how Jon would take it is that he's been raised with an intellectual distaste of incest, so he may balk.

On Jon and Sansa, I think some reviews I watched are right, there's going to be further issues, as Sansa still doesn't trust him, and he, unintentionally, fails to give her due credit for her advice, and she has Littlefinger twisting her as well.

Arya is definitely going to seeking the remainders of her list, and does not know about a lot of the changes that have happened since the events the play depicted, so it's a question of when she finds out Sansa is in the North, Jon has been declared King there, and when she does, will she head for them? If she does, she can become the Wolf of the North.

One video has noted that of everyone, Tyrion is probably the single most loyal person in the whole story. The people he's turned against mistreated him prior - like his father. He's sworn to Dany, and hell, while he was trying to control Meereen, he tried to stay loyal to Dany's intent by holding it together while she was missing. I like that he's now her Hand, and of all her supporters (who remain in her immediate vicinity regularly, unlike Varys running off to get allies), he understands Westeros political shenanigans the best, and until all of that is pushed out of the way in the face of the White Walkers, she will need him.

I could go either way with who kills Cersei. Arya would be satisfying for her list, but so would Jaime for the valonqar prophecy. What happens to him after that depends on if Arya decides she hates him enough, or if Dany gets to pass judgement on him.

a particularly twisted and satisfying suggestion was that Arya kills Jaime and wears his face while killing Cersei. it satisfies the prophecy in a tricksy way and it makes it all the worse for Cersei thinking that Jaime's betrayed her, while still giving a bit of catharsis for Arya getting revenge.

You're right on that, it would fulfill the prophecy and still give the kill to Arya, for both of them.
