I play Dungeons and Dragons mostly, which is a D20 system, it's combat is fairly ironed out and you can be as light or as heavy with the storytelling as you like. You could also house-rule some stuff(I do) to help with the gameplay because it doesn't all work seamlessly.

I've also played World of Darkness, which is much more based around the storytelling. There are dice rolls, lots of *D10's used to make skill checks, combat checks, and I think it works fine but I never quite clicked with it. But it is much more about the roleplaying imo and you can do a lot with it in that regard.
