Tabletop RPG
So, anyone around here play tabletop rpgs? What systems do you use?

I've also played World of Darkness, which is much more based around the storytelling. There are dice rolls, lots of *D10's used to make skill checks, combat checks, and I think it works fine but I never quite clicked with it. But it is much more about the roleplaying imo and you can do a lot with it in that regard.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-26 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)I definitely wouldn't recommend 3rd edition D&D (or Pathfinder), though, and other editions really only if you want to play really specific kinds of games. D&D gets way over-emphasized IMO - not that it's necessarily a bad game, but people treat it as way more generalized and generic of a game than it really is or should be. Of course ultimately you can have fun in any system.

The d20 system in general is pretty solid - M&M, D&D 3.X/Pathfinder, and d20 Modern/Future all play well...I never got to play Call of Cthulhu d20, but elements from it adapted cleanly into a D&D 3.5 campaign I ran.
D&D 4e is pretty good, if you want to keep the mechanics contained to where they're completely necessary (mostly combat).

(Anonymous) 2016-06-27 12:12 am (UTC)(link)Of the lot, I've found the Cortex system and the FATE system to be the most newbie-friendly, since they're fairly straightforward. House rules can salvage most any system, though, since your GM can decide to pare off a lot of extraneous rolling and number-crunching.
