I spend a lot of time on both websites. When I come across a massive pile of shit on one, I definitely get more sympathetic towards the loudmouths on the other.

I think tumblr might win out for me more often because it's easier to filter yourself away from ridiculous people of whatever persuasion. You can follow some people and ignore others and still expose yourself to a broad range of people within a fandom. Whereas with reddit, there's probably only one, maybe two subreddits around for any given fandom. If a handful of assholes are active posters and commenters, it's much harder to avoid them.

I kinda feel the same way. It may be easier to have discussions on reddit, but on the other hand, it's also way easier to flitter out assholes on tumblr.
