May get some shit for this but I agree with you OP. It's why I don't really care whenever it seems like female characters have big and defensive fan followings. I've had my favorite female characters litterally (and I mean litterally) get shit on or ignored just because they're women, and I've been accused of being a fake fan for even daring to cosplay as them.
So damn right I'm going to stan for them hard. I'd rather a female character have obnoxious stans then a hater following imo.

I like even handed discussions but I would much rather see too much fangasming than too much hating.

Don't tear other characters down to make your fave look good and you're okay by me.

Seriously. It's why I always roll my eyes whenever we get a, "I hate that female character x has such a big stupid sjw fanbase!!!" secret.
Like...would you rather they get tons of obnoxious hate and moanings and groanings on how ugly and useless they are and how they deserve to be raped/killed? Because if so I can point you towads a few subreddits on reddit.

Female characters' rabid fans are worse than rabid haters. I've been on the receiving end of both sides. Haters mostly leave regular fans of the characters they hate alone, but stans hunt down and bite the head off anyone who less than worships their flawless queen goddess.

i've come across some pretty rabid haters in my time who have felt the need to go into the spaces of fans and shit all over the characters they like, but the ott response from it on the stans side isn't any better and honestly is just as aggravating to deal with.
