Reddit, like tumblr and 4chan, is not a monolith. Everything depends on the subs and boards you browse much like tumblr is dependent on the tags you follow and filter and culling your dashboard.

However, I do understand your point of each of them (+4chan) being reactionary towards each other. I figure at times it's just to be contrary for the sake of it.
