OP

Oh god, I just realized how right you are, and that's so depressing. I'm very slightly above average as a singer (like, best in my community college class but no where near good enough to be in a professional production. Or at least that's what I thought until reading your comment. Maybe I should send in that audition tape for Hamilton after all...no, I'm kidding myself) but I know my own limitations and have enough training to hear it in others. I don't mind people enjoying music for what it is but I get like, Simon Cowell season 1 about singers who are only hurting themselves and encouraging others to do so.

Like Idina: I listened to that performance and wondered how on earth she managed to even keep her voice if she sang so badly. I can't even watch normal performance videos of Wicked because she strains so hard during the end of Defying Gravity. And yet every comment was about how wonderful she is. Can no one else hear her vocal chords snapping?

Yeah... people can't hear it, but oh my god it physically hurts me to listen to her because I can imagine how her throat is going to feel the next day.

On the other hand, the actual track for the movie doesn't have those issues, so I have to wonder if she just doesn't give herself enough time to rest or something.
