As a former Twihater: Yep. It was pretty bad. There were people who were mad that Twilight wasn't more like Dracula. That's like complaining that Sweet Valley High doesn't live up to The Catcher in the Rye. Twilight is Sweet Valley High with vampires, not Dracula, or even Harry Potter or Buffy.

I mean, I remember just assuming anyone I liked who seemed halfway intelligent hated Twilight, which led to a lot of cringe.

I should elaborate to mention that I'm not saying either HP or Buffy are as good as Dracula, but rather, they really deal with good versus evil and all that stuff. Twilight is just a teenage love story.

My favorite is the people who complain that it's not more like Dracula while being completely wrong on the details of Dracula.

I know, right?

It's the same with werewolves. SMeyer actually uses the traditional mythology for both - it's that we're used to vampires burning up in the sun and werewolves being cursed, as opposed to just being Shifters who've chosen the wolf form. (I'll grant you, I prefer it being a curse, but SMeyer didn't invent the other kind.)
