"It was just a joke! Lighten up!"

or

"Calm down!" when I am calm, just not in agreement.

It also really bothers me when someone quotes someone else who has a regional or international accent, and they mimic that accent. Even if it's not done in an obviously negative, mocking way. (I'm not talking about celebrity impressions or things like that.) It's usually either done by people who grossly overestimate their ability to mimic regional accents authentically (so I have to fake a smile and look amused) and/or have a limited experience with people from outside their small town or circle of friends/family and see everyone else as somehow weird or ~Other~.

THIIIS. I had a former boss who would do this to me whenever I was confused about something. If I furrowed my brow a little, or asked her to explain something, she'd always say "Calm down" -- in a more alarmed tone than I ever used.

People like that are the worst. They evidently can't handle the slightest bit of ...not even negativity, but anything that's not 100% sweetness and light directed at them, and instead of recognizing that this is their own problem, they instead try to police everyone else's emotions and behavior to fit their completely unrealistic requirements. Fuck those people.

"Calm down"

There's a person in my social group that does this whenever someone else appears to be ranting or even really invested in something.

Same person goes on huge rants about humanity when things go wrong. If anyone said it to them I'm 99% certain they'd throw a fit.

Augh, I have two friends like this! I have no idea how they got it into their heads that only they are allowed to express anger or disappointment, while the rest of us have to be perfectly agreeable at all times.

I've noticed that tends to happen with a lot of guilty ass people for different things. Cheater? I'll accuse YOU of cheating! Temper tantrum? You're WAY WORSE than me! Distracted driver? Please! Just because I can multitask with makeup application, smartphone texting, and horn honking doesn't mean everyone else is so gifted, so THEY need to cut that shit out!
