I just aged her up in my head and ignored any mention of how young she looked because I was interested in the other aspects of the story. I love stuff that deals with perceptions like that.

And yeah, while I like anime and manga, the weird pedo lolli shit has always been super creepy to me and I'll never understand why the fuck anyone would like it.

I haven't played this, but from what I've read, the character in question isn't human. The MC sees the world and other people the way things look in the picture, grotesque and gory. Saya's a monstrosity that drives people insane, so the MC sees her and other beings like her as normal humans.

I have no idea how old she is since as feo said she's not human and doesn't actually look like that and her origins are a bit ambigous. I don't even know how old she's supposed to look. I wrote it off as the usual anime way of making everyone look young until the main character commented on how young she looked and I went "...oh D: We're gonna get through this creepy sex part as fast as possible now"

Not OP, but I imagine pedophila offends people more, because
1. It directly involves children
2. Pedophila has a lot of defenders on certain corners of the Internet.

You won't see many people defending murder or cannibalism, but go onto some parts of reddit for example, and you'll definitely come across a few pedo-apologists. It's gross as fuck but they do exist which makes the whole issue even worse.

Now that I think about it, maybe the OP meant to put the rest of the stuff under "piece of shit." I was going to say that this game is pretty well known for appalling its players, but that's not necessarily a defense if it's considered a classic. I haven't played it, so I don't know the context for a lot of the stuff I've heard about it, but I can't really think of a possible context where some of it would be "artistically necessary" or whatnot. Some of the stuff with Yoh in particular just sounds like it's gross for the sake of being gross.

It was written by Urobuchi and people became aware of it when Madoka Magica became popular. Also I'm reading it's by Nitro+ who is collaborating with Type Moon for the Fate/Zero light novel. Also it has a cynical MC and a waifu.

Add all that up and there you have the reason.

I'm amazed there are people out there who think Saya and what's his name have the most profound love story ever. They're both so fucking wretched and sociopathic that I just wanted them to die horribly.

I've learned never to doubt the capacity some people have to take the most fucked up relationships and declare them the truest most profound love in the world.

I am a fan of the game more for the psychological aspects of their relationship and trying to find the point where he actually falls in love with Saya, or what he thinks Saya really is. As a man who is pretty much trapped in a world that (as we see later) would make anyone else go insane, finding that kind of solace and peace in her, it makes absolute sense that he would make her his entire existence.

Saya as a character makes a lot of sense given that all she knows comes from what she sees and absorbs from others and before him, functions pretty much solely on survival. The idea of anything threatening that, and eventually her happiness with him, then turns into protecting that. Not that it's by any means acceptable or not gruesome, but between the two of them, their spiral of madness and lack of concern for anything other than what has changed their entire existence makes a perfect storm and connection.

Also, given Japanese consent laws are at 13...yeah. It's squicky as hell at times, but a very interesting and twisted look into how minds can be warped by desperation and need.

It's still a shitty love story and they're both despicable beyond the point of having any sympathy. The fact that the game expects people to be upset at the ending where she has to leave him is baffling to me. It's played entirely straight.
