I shipped Ed/Alfons (Edward Elric/the parallel universe version of his brother) in FMA, but weirdly there was a lot less "you just want incest but you're afraid of incest!!" or whatever than you might have expected. Personally, I just really loved the dynamic. So many issues to deal with, it was a whole party.

Then I shipped Levi/Eren, which is far more classically problematic. Eren's underage, Levi's ~30, Levi's Eren's CO so power issues, everything. idk, I don't really bother justifying it to myself. It's not real, and irl I wouldn't for one second think any of that is appropriate. Maybe that's why I prefer canonverse - when you've got huge man-eating monsters in a vaguely feudal environment and one half of the pairing has spoilery powers, it kind of makes everything less of an issue.
The fandom shrieks about it every so often and would flood the tags with garbage, but I didn't encounter much hate, personally. I guess it helps that it's one of the juggernauts of the fandom.

Actual Elricest was the second biggest FMA ship after Roy/Ed when the 2003 anime was popular. That was before everything started getting attacked for being "problematic" and "triggering" though.

HeiEd was great. I love that Ed would likely have a complex about it. That was the first thing my friend told me when they introduced me to the ship (hadn't seen the movie at that point).
