Trigger warning: suicide

(Anonymous) 2016-07-05 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
My skin condition is completely out of control and effecting every angle of my life. No sleep due to itching, blood on my clothes, scars everywhere on my body, skin destroyed on my face, skin from my scalp on my clothes, constantly scratching even in public, creams just make it worse.

It's been like this for three years now. And I honestly don't think I can take much more. It's seen as a minor thing by just about everyone - my Gp, my consultant, my friends, my family. But I'm seriously considering suicide.

I have had one whole night's sleep in the last three years.

If it's psoriasis you might try talking to the folks over at the Inspire Talk Psoriasis community. If it's not there might be a similar community for your diagnosis, or you could try talking to them anyway because they go through some of the same stuff.

Can you get a second opinion from a different doctor? I'm assuming consultant = dermatologist, but if not, see a dermatologist. If you have, try to find a way to see a dufferent one. Tell your GP how seriously this is affecting your life (at least the lack of sleep and skin and blood everywhere parts, as well as any self-esteem issues).

Go see a dermatologist. There are solutions to psoriasis other than just creams nowadays.

My mother has really bad eczema. Such that she always has bleeding/scabs (she has wrecked so many sheets and pajamas) and itching. Her dermatologist has worked a lot with her, and the only thing that really works is steroids. But she can only take those for a short time. There are other things that can lessen it. I definitely recommend seeing a dermatologist. They can determine if it is psoriasis or eczema or something else and try out different things that can help. I am so sorry to hear that it is getting to you so much. I see the hell my mom goes through, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

AYRT I'm sorry to hear about your Mum. My condition is eczema. I've now run the gauntlet of dermatologists. Nothing, none of the conventional treatments work for me. Steroids help a little but they're wrecking my skin which makes it more prone to outbreaks of eczema. I suspect my skin has steroid addiction but theres nothing else I can do.

I know at least a little of what you are going through, and it is so awful, and I feel for you so much. I wish I had some magic cure for you.

Appreciate the sentiment. I hope your Mum's eczema eases off.

Who knows, maybe there will be some new treatments in the next ten years or so.
