Every time I see this one friend she's really happy to see me and we get one great and she asks me to call her so we'll keep in touch. But every time I call her she only talks about herself and her life and her rats and her boyfriend, and never asks anything about my life and changes the subject should I bring something up.

After six months of this, I'm pretty ready to chuck in the friendship.

Six months? You're very patient. I suspect the reason why you "get along great" is because she likes having someone to vent to who doesn't require any reciprocity. Selfish people always get along great with the people who give them what they want, all the time. Call her on this. Ask her why every time you guys talk, it's always about her, and she never seems to be interested in your life. Worst case scenario, it ends the friendship, but it sounds like you don't really have a friendship in the first place.
