For me it depends on how realistic the show is supposed to be. Elves can do whatever they want, as long as they look pretty, haha. Thor is magic. Any show that's not particularly realistic, I don't mind the long hair.
It bothers me a bit more in something like SPN, which has some vague elements of realism, but most in say crime shows or whatever.
Also, if it's equal-opportunity stupid pretty long hair I am much more okay with it than shows where the guys are in serious combat gear, and the girls are all pretty with flowing hair.

This is like reasons 4, 5, and 6 I can't watch most "action" anime with any pretensions of realism. Because realism only extends so far as you have a penis.
