When a story says that a conversation took much more or much less time than it possible could have done. Like, Tom and Hank chat for maybe half a page, and then it's "Oh my god! Look at the time! It's been an hour!!!"
Or, "Oh no! We only have thirty seconds to defuse the bomb! In case this doesn't go right, I'm going to confess my undying love to you, and explain my tragic backstory, and dictate my full legal will, and possibly throw in a profound quotation or a few witty quips, and - oops, where did my legs go?"

Related, but I've been watching Kuroko no Baskue, and people keep having conversations while running along the court, and I'm like... how long is this court? Because you've been running non-stop in the same direction for five minutes now.

For the hour-long half-page chats, I just assume the author elided all the inane small talk, discussion of last night's episode of whatever, and general companionable silences that make up the bulk of most conversations when there isn't a crisis or other deadline.

Including it might be more realistic, but it'd also be dead boring to read.
