Thanks for caring, I appreciate it! I live in a semi-rural area in NW Florida, and while I expect it's the same everywhere, applying for any kind of government assistance is a like pulling teeth. I was rejected for disability a few years ago, and am in the process of trying again. I started in February, but the process of just determining whether an applicant is actually disabled can take up to 180 days. I ain't gonna hear from them any time soon. Dad, at least, is getting retirement, and mom's applying for every job opening in the region. In the meantime we're ebaying the shit out of a bunch of stuff and we're gonna have a yard sale this weekend. Hopefully that'll help a bit. I'm also seeing my pain doc this week (they've agreed to bill me later), so hopefully I can get some more of those helpful shots in my back.

Your situation sounds unbelievably stressful. I hope your mother sobers up and straightens out her act and that you get a well-deserved reprieve! No one deserves to be treated like that, especially not by their own mother.
