According to an unnamed source (my husband), most warriors DID wear their hair up or tucked into their clothing (down the back). BUT, the Viking Berserkers used to take their hair out of their braids and fluff it out to display their feelings toward their opponents - that the opponents weren't worthy of taking care with. They weren't worthy opponents. But normally, hair wrapped, tucked, hidden.
