I'm going to have to disagree with you there. The callout posts and pushing people to suicide if they dare to draw a character the wrong way is much worse these days.

... did you actually read the secret because it was comparing sporking and bad fanfiction and nothing else

"callout posts" have nothing to do with it, OP never said they liked fandom better today or that fandom back then was worse

Honestly some of the mentality behind that and behind people lambasting "bad fic writers" aren't too far apart. Different mentalities and priorities ("you're a shitty writer" "you're a shitty person") but still similar.

Some sporkers may genuinely want to help/want these people to improve but a lot of them seemed to just want them to stop writing or putting fics up, claiming quality control by means of chasing out all those people who write "bad fic"( yes I put that in quotes because some is bad and some I've seen is just not a type of fic the sporker cares for) .
Chasing people away from posting is not nearly as extreme is getting them to off themselves but it's still inflicting a kind of damage in someone for utterly selfish reasons. ("I don't like this, this angers/upsets me") Yes, the person can scroll past their mockery, and insults, but they could have scrolled by the fic rather than deciding to openly roast it to start with.

But in the end, they're both deciding that for whatever reason this individual needs to be punished. Humiliated, and mocked, or harassed and pelted with suicide encouragement. One is not as bad as the other, but that doesn't mean its not bad.

Criticism that aims to help someone improve is good. But "criticism" that is nothing more than telling someone how awful and wrong it is and laughing at them for it, isn't even criticism. It's the pathetic behavior of a weak individual. Strong confident people don't need to point out how much someone else sucks to feel good at about themselves.
