She was from some modest-sized town in (IIRC) Oregon or Washington, so I'm guessing she had very little appreciation of the sheer size of a great city and its metro area.

Apparently not. Which is bizarre to me-I'm from a small city of nearly 30,000 people in Iowa, I've never even BEEN to New Orleans (let alone Louisiana or the southern U.S. in general) and I know that New Orleans is quite a big place.
