A little late here, but whatever.

What's the term when a person says something so abnormal that you can't even tell if they're being serious or not?

Anyhoo, dude, "sociopath" is a not a mental illness. Neither is psychopath, for that matter. The most recent term is "anti-social personality disorder" and that's not a mental illness EITHER. A personality disorder just means you don't know how to act like a nice, normal person and it interferes with your quality of life. It's not on the same diagnostic Axis as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia or even autism.

Regardless of this, a sociopath is, by definition, going to be abusive in one way or another. If they're not, they're not a sociopath.

Autism isn't a mental illness, it's developmental condition/disability.
