Re: Characters who are always portrayed badly in fanart

I'm still so salty that almost all Lord of the Rings and/or Silmarillion artists, even the book-focused ones, seem to draw Elrond so unattractively and always in the same way - always including all the inaccurate and bad things about Hugo Weaving's Elrond (the oldness, the receding hairline, the dull limp thin hair) yet at the same time somehow taking out all the awesome and appropriate things about his Elrond (the piercing eyes, the Eyebrows of Doom.) Siiiigggggghhhhh. It's so boring.

I feel similar about Legolas since most artists draw him using movies as reference :(

ayrt

Yeah me too. Well, I did always picture Legolas as blond even before I saw the movies, and I like him as blond since the rest of the fellowship is full of dark-haired people and variety is good, but I didn't picture him like the movies.

And it's not that the movie version is bad, even, just that there's sooooo little variation! It gets so boring!

different anon:

well, he sorta was blond even before the live-action version. If you feel like torturing yourself, image google up 'Legolas Rankin-Bass'. Just be prepared for eye-bleach if you catch a glimpse of Thranduil from the same studio.

LOL I've seen pictures of that, though I've never actually watched the movie. He looks kind of like a baby John Smith from Pocahontas. And then of course Thranduil looks like a mossy toad-gnome thing which I weirdly love bc he still has fabulous golden hair.

the anon that mentioned the Rankin-Bass Legolas:

LOL - now I'm not going to unsee that image

(truth be told, I can only watch that in small amounts because once Gollum comes on - I'm out of the room like a bat out of hell. Brother Theodore's voice creeps me the fuck out)
