Re: Characters you feel were screwed over by the plot

I totally agree with this in general, but I gotta disagree about Cho Chang. I thought her storyline was actually impressively out-of-the-box, empathetic, and believably done. It's actually quite rare for YA novels to have a minor character, let alone a minor-character love interest, who acts in ways that are inconvenient to the main character due to feelings and problems that are entirely her own and out of the scope of the main character's control. She was not "suddenly annoying for no reason."

I think movie Cho Chang got screwed by the plot because wasn't she the one who tattled because Marietta Edgecombe wasn't written in the movies? It's been a while since I've watched Order of the Phoenix.

Yeah, movie Cho was evil. Book Cho just defended her friend, which frankly is what many people would do, especially teenagers. Maybe not the trio, but Cho was way more of a normal teenager than the trio at that point.

.............and just how was movie Cho "evil"?

I think the movie strongly implied that Umbridge and her squad tortured/intimidated the information out of Cho...

Yup. At least in the scene where Umbridge is trying to get a confession out of Harry, Snape states that he has no more veritaserum to give to Umbridge because she "had used the last of it" on Cho.

But everyone in the book treated her like she was annoying, including Harry. And nobody corrected them about it, they never admitted they were wrong, which means the story's intent was to make the reader think she was "just annoying" and should have gotten over it or handled her feelings better.

Um, lol whut? Did you completely miss that entire speech Hermione gave about her? That wasn't what happened at all. And by DH, she HAD gotten over her issues and was no longer annoying.
