Yeah, gun laws in the US are ridiculously lax, and people are so uninformed about them (I've had two relatives from different states insist background checks are required, and had to point out that isn't true for gun shows).

... yes, it is. At least, for the dealers. Background checks are not required for private transactions between individuals (depending on jurisdiction). If that takes place at a gun show, well, it's still a private transaction between individuals.

That being said, as a gun owner, I would not sell one of my guns to someone I didn't know, or to someone who didn't have a concealed-carry permit (because people with CCPs have been through an FBI background check already).

That doesn't contradict anything I just said. The thing is, federal law was changed and now 'private transaction between individuals' even covers people selling large quantities of weapons at gun shows. I know this because I just had to do this research two weeks ago for a relative who thought I was making it up.
