I never wrote any of mine down. But I have lots of fantasy Mary Sues. I always like to imagine myself as the hero, saving the day, defeating the villain. I'm the best Jedi ever or the most powerful wizard or the most awesome superhero or whatever. I just don't feel the need to share them by writing them down as fics.

Not really a Mary Sue, but I wrote a fic where Remus from Harry Potter had a little sister who was Tonks's best friend, and... ugh. She wasn't a Sue, I did try very hard to avert that, but she just didn't fit in the overall universe. Plus, the writing itself was terrible. I needed a beta reader desperately.

A pink-haired, reality-warping, bishie-getting "authoress" named Sarah B. Smith.

(secret: I still think her design was kinda cute)

I had one of those, too! I made a Megaman sprite palette swap for her; he had long purple hair and wore fuchsia and teal. (Boy did I ever grow up in the 90s.) She had an absurdly long name consisting of butchered fangirl Japanese so everyone called her by her first initial.

Me, but happy and fulfilled. I have a pet cat, friends who encourage me and share similar interests, a job that I like, and nice cozy house. I also have a ton more motivation, no allergies, and bring hope and joy to all around me. Conversation comes easy and I worry little.

Additionally I live in Johto and was a magical girl at one point.

Apropos for #4 above, when my friends and I played Sailor Scouts, I was Sailor Nemesis, senshi of fortune! Nemesis was a planet with a crystal, after all, so maybe it could have a sensi of its own after Death Phantom was destroyed, yeah?

In the Yuu Yuu Hakusho universe, I had a human-demon hybrid who was totally beautiful, sublimely angsty when she was a human, and a psychopathic murderer when her demon side took over.

She lived on the coast of Cinnabar Island and nursed Ash back to health after he was badly hurt and separated from Misty & Brock after an encounter with Missingno. She later caught Missingno herself.

Man, I had a bunch and I cringe now when I think about them, but I still have a soft spot for my first Mary Sue. Her name was Miracle and she appeared in a bunch of anime fics I wrote between the ages of eleven and fourteen. She was cute, with blue curls down to her feet, super smart, an extremely skilled fighter, and everyone adored her except the bad guys, but she could get the bad guys to love her by trying to be their friend. I had her try to solve lots of problems by talking instead of fighting because her words were magic or some shit and she would angst over all the bishies liking her. Oh, and she was half-demon because I was obsessed with Inuyasha when I made her up.

Oh my gosh, I had so many ridiculous Mary Sues that I made up when I was around 12. Name a Mary Sue cliche and I had it covered. Lots of tragic backgrounds where parents either died or abandoned them. All kinds of skills that I thought were cool, especially speaking lots of languages and knowing martial arts. Lots of sisters and daughters to canon characters. Some royalty.

My favorite for sheer ridiculousness is an OC who was a genius orphan who, in accordance with my interests, was an expert in martial arts and a speaker of a half a dozen languages by the age of thirteen and it turned out she was from another dimension where she was, of course, a princess and gained magical powers in a world where no one else had magic and was constantly discovering new things she could do. When I grew older I kept daydreaming about her because it amused me and it became a running joke that she would gain a new power immediately after a situation where it would have been useful. I still have fun with her.

Same. I'm 27 and I still come up with self inserts in my head.

I still do it too but it's not quite the same now that I'm more self-aware about it.

I secretly write a self-insert Mary Sue Pokemon fanfic. It will never see the light of the internet. Her starter Pokemon is Mew. It's my guilty pleasure.

A demi-saiyan daughter of Raditz who was Sailor Vegeta, Seto Kaiba's girlfriend, Trunks' rival, and besties with TFArmada Sideswipe. Oh, and brought Armada Starscream back to life.

...yeah I was a saaaaaad kid. A terrible, SAAAAAAAAAD kid.

A little lengthy

[personal profile] feotakahari 2016-07-19 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
A baron's daughter with strong healing magic, kidnapped by a mad scientist who wanted to use her magic in his experiments. By combining her DNA with that of a dragon and several magical animals, he successfully converted her healing magic to powerful reality-warping magic known only in legends. However, no mortal vessel is strong enough to cast that magic outward, so the only way she could use it was inwards, temporarily transforming herself into any of the beings she shared DNA with.

The other MCs defeated the mad scientist and rescued her, but she now had white skin and red eyes, and the spidersilk jumpsuit she'd been made to wear for the experiment was permanently fused to her skin. Her family cast her out rather than accept the shame of a member who'd been marked by strange magic, so she traveled with the MCs, putting her new powers to use in battle. She had a lot of angst over potentially losing her mind and becoming just a beast, but she was otherwise the friendly and outgoing moral center who kept the group together.

Every other MC fell in love with her. Also, the black dragon who led the villains was motivated by the murder of the white dragon she shared DNA with, so he was drawn to/appalled by her, too.

I still think I could salvage this character if I toned her down a bit. There are opportunities to puncture her perfect image a bit, like the logistics of going to the bathroom when you can only disrobe by turning into an animal, or the problem with fighting magic-users when your clothing magnifies all magic cast on you.

I still have head!Sues (the latest is Dean Winchester's daughter, a badass hunter-in-training, etc etc you can probably fill in the blanks on the rest) even though I'm a "grown-up" and probably should've outgrown the habit years ago.

On the other hand, they get me through long, boring days in my cubicle, so why the hell not?
ext_18500: My non-fandom OC Oraania. She's crazy. (Default)

Hmm... Hyperbole the crew member of the USS Sevillia was pretty Mary Sue.

I once flirted with the idea of Mimi Fish the Slytherin, but that was long before I shifted ID to Mimi Sardinia.

I wholely admit Oraania (see icon) and her family are very Sue/Stu, but none more than Harliquin. I tried to mitigate that the time I started writing a Baldur's Gate fic starring Oraania, but when Mareph turned up in the last chapter I ever managed to write, he was showing Stu signs.

I try to mitigate it with my RP Silmarils, so the side effect is they often say they have a lot of power but it is almost never seen.

That is just in my time online. The sort of OCs I had before I got online were pretty classic Sues, but Harliquin is really the last of that era.

I probably had Mary-Sues before that, but the first one I remember was Cheryl Mothma. Mon Mothma's daughter. Luke Skywalker's girlfriend. Force-sensitive X-Wing ace.

(In my defense, I was eight.)

Eighth grade: fourteen year old running for Congress in society with voting age of twelve. Ninth grade: fifteen year old princess whose big brother the crown prince helps her sneak out to spend the night with her boyfriend (shockingly a commoner)
