My pet thing is Mairon being called Sauron by himself or Melkor or anyone in Angband/Utumno/Mordor in any fic set before Numenor. Yes, the Silmarillion doesn't actually mention Mairon's name. But other bits of Tolkien make clear he didn't take Sauron on as his name until after Numenor, though others called him that before. Same goes for Melkor being called Morgoth by Mairon or anyone in Angband or Utumno.

While Sauron is less of an issue for me, I definitely agree about Morgoth.

Thing is, that name is something Fëanor invented and practically everyone in Beleriand who stood against Melkor adopted. I kinda find it hard to imagine that Melkor's own people would go around calling him "Great Enemy of the World" to his face.
