"We're only allowed to drink water during work hours. But, some people don't like water, you know."

...

Mostly my thoughts were "please don't have children".

I took it to mean 'the only only drink you can have while on the floor is water' not, no you don't get a lunch break, only water for you until you clock out. XD If that's the vibe you were getting.

Technically in my job we're not even supposed to have water in the department, but my boss lets it slide if it's a closed container and we hide it if inspectors come around. >.>

How is that spoiled? I gre up poor as dirt and I still hate the taste of water and would be upset if it was the only drink I was allowed to have.

I honestly can't fathom considering water as a....well, beverage of choice? Like that is the basics, everything else is optional.

Water is my beverage of choice but that's because carbonated mineral water is the go-to water where I live. So I guess it's also a matter of the country you live in/the types of water that are common where you live - not sure if water would be my beverage of choice if I only got uncarbonated water.
