I get wishing, sometimes desperately, to be a specific character, or identifying very strongly with aspects of their personality or experience, but I really don't get thinking you are them. I have disassociation issues sometimes when life gets bad, and it sounds like these people do too or something, but what happens when these people change fannish obsessions or interests? Do they cling to their old fictional identity, or switch, or what?

They collect new kins as their interests change. I've seen one tumblrina with an about page containing a list of at least a dozen characters they claimed to be "kins" with. This list included Pokemon characters (the monsters, not the humans.)

I am not an expert on current Fictionkin habits, but from one soulbonder (fictionkin's predecessor) I knew, some personalities can go quiet and simply disappear, while new ones (who may match current fandom interests) can appear.
