Ron Weasley - obvious but most honest answer

no he wasn't perfect. he was flawed. I can see why his character might annoy some people. but bashing him seems to be (or have been) a fandom hobby. people were writing him as abusive or straight-up as a Death Eater just because they didn't like him :/

I agree, and I say this as someone who was never particularly fond of him. Mostly because some of his character flaws were things that particularly bug me. But he was a good character, a good friend, a complicated and believable character, and a hero. And the bashing got old.

I love Ron. He's one of my favorite characters. I relate to him a lot, and attacks on him feel a bit too much like attacks on me as a person. (Ron and I have many of the same flaws.)

I have never seen a Harry Potter fic longer than one chapter that didn't bash either Ron or Dumbledore.
