(I don't even want to win, I just want to run around catching Pokejos. Maybe one of my friends will one day be bored and just give me their phone for a few hours to run around the local arboretum catching things!)

(Anonymous) 2016-07-22 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)Nothing like being asked, by multiple different people, if you're playing a game that wasn't designed for anything you actually own.
When Black and White came out and I didn't have a DS, I was fine with not being able to play them.
I read up on the new Pokémon, people I talked to online carried on as normal, 90% of conversations didn't suddenly revolve around the latest Pokémon game.
The default assumption for "owns a device that plays this game" was "no".
But Go when you don't have a smartphone that supports one (or a smartphone at all)?
Suddenly everyone's talking about this game that you have no way to play, and assuming that you have a way to play it unless you specify otherwise, and it's frustrating.
And, honestly, I'm fucking sick of it. I'm bitter, I'm frustrated, I wish people would shut up about it already. (I wish I could go back to apathy about it.)
The default assumption for "owns a device that plays this game" is now "yes", and that's what makes this different from any other Pokémon game. If only people would realise that not everyone even has a smartphone, some of them by choice. *sigh*
/rant
Also the whining would bother me too. Talking about not being able to play it is still talking about it.

I don't have a phone for it and I'm not about to drop the money to get one. (I've barely accepted needing a cell phone at all.) I wish I could play, but I realize it's not going to happen any time soon, and I'm OK with that.
OTOH, disabled people have every right to WISH that the game had an "easy" mode so that people with limited mobility could still enjoy this ubiquitous and maybe ephemeral game.
I know some people will say "that's just life get over it," but if you lived with a disability you would get really fed up with having things that everyone else can do (and takes for granted) that you can't and maybe never will be able to do. It gets really fucking old. Yes, sometimes you tell people about it.
And when the default answer is "well I couldn't do ____ because I didn't buy this or that" or "once I was laid up for two weeks so I know how it is" frankly...that sucks. And no, they don't know how it is or they wouldn't say that. :(

(Anonymous) 2016-07-23 12:01 am (UTC)(link)Reason I'm doing this, is because all my friends played it and they're saying how good gens III-VI are good, but I got back into Pokemon late and never got to experience the hype those games got, in order to converse with my friends about them.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-23 08:33 am (UTC)(link)I have mobility issues. This week I went for a walk on Wednesday (flat ground, frequent stops, slow place), and spent Thursday dreading every moment I had to spend standing because my knees were KILLING me. But I play to the best of my abilities, and enjoy the time I get.
Travelling around is an integral part of the game play. It's right there in the name! There are dozens of games with flashing or strobing effects that could incapacitate anyone with even minor epilepsy, or trigger a migraine, and those are just aesthetic. Get on those fuckers to change their games!
No product can be all things to all people. That's not how it works.
