Totally justifiable IMO, his characterization in ST09 was one of the strongest parts of that film, and STID is terrible enough all-around that I'm comfortable mostly ignoring it.

Watch Beyond. STID may as well not have happened.

It was very enjoyable!

(Anonymous) 2016-07-22 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I do too, not ashamed to admit.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-22 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
So do I.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-22 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked him too!

To me, there's also fact that William Shatner was known to be such a prick, in the filming of the series and, to me, it really comes across in the character. (Sorry, imo, he's just not that good an actor, to separate himself completely from whatever character he's playing). Chris Pine, however, is a really good actor.

So you don't prefer the scenery chewer himself?? *le gasp*

HEATHEN!

(Anonymous) 2016-07-23 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
I can't stand Chris Pine's massive forehead and rectangular shaped head.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-23 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
You are not alone, nonnie :-P

(Anonymous) 2016-07-23 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. Also the new McCoy is fantastic. Perfect casting.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-23 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed!
For me it's new Kirk, old Spock, and both old and new McCoys.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-23 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen enough of TOS to have a proper opinion on this, but I do think Chris Pine does a fantastic job.

I do too.

I can see why this is a secret, but it shouldn't need to be. I think the character has gotten more well-rounded with each movie, even if the characterization is delivered through predictable clichés.

It's okay, I understand my enjoyment of Shatner is probably not the majority opinion.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-23 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'll join you over here in the Shatner corner. Love the original!Kirk, but I'm not going to go to war with anyone over it. :)

[personal profile] lb_lee 2016-07-23 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Then again, I get extra bonus because hubby thinks young Shatner is hot. Enjoyment for all!

(Anonymous) 2016-07-23 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Is there room in the Shatner corner for me?

(Anonymous) 2016-07-23 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I grew up with Shatner!Kirk & I love him so much. I think Chris Pine does an amazing job too. I prefer Shatner because of nostalgia I think, but I'm certainly not going to fight anyone over it.

See, I feel like Chris Pine is a better actor, but I prefer Shatner's Kirk because reboot!Kirk is written in such a generic way, he's completely lost all the elements that made Kirk such a unique and likable character. Reboot!Kirk is written as the pop culture interpretation of the character - a reckless, cocksure, devil-may-care womanizer, and that's never what Kirk was in the original series.

Same here, though Picard is still my favourite captain.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-24 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
new kirk is freaking gorgeous
new spock on the other hand does nothing for me :(
TOS was exactly the opposite
i hate how they managed to ruin the dynamic of the pair though, when i watched latest movie i was having that distinct feeling that kirk is sort of scared of spock, in a bad way, and keeping appearances just for the sake of working relations :(

(Anonymous) 2016-07-24 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I love both equally, but I definitely understand why some people prefer Shatner over Pine (and vice versa). If I had not watched ST09 first, I most likely would have been in the Shatner-only camp.
