In fairness here: I'm not a fan of the Kaine pick, but he is demonstrably in favor of pro-choice laws and policies. He's soft on abortion, he's not anti-choice. That's a relevant distinction here.

Of course, because being anti-choice would sink her campaign. But she's going to go as far right as possible without sinking herself, which is not what she promised to fight for. Remember when she claimed she was a progressive?

You seem to be acting as though Kaine being soft on abortion is her primary motivation for choosing him? Like she wants to go as far to the right on the issue as possible?

That seems unlikely to be the case to me.

You are reading my comment incorrectly, then. The VP pick wasn't anything unexpected but I expected her to pivot to the right to pick up votes ASAP and that she did, that's all. She'll compromise on anything for votes.

nayrt but obviously. Clinton wants a platform that appeals to the most voters. Believe it or not, politicians are actually supposed to try to represent the most people, not just a fringe ultra-left minority.

No. But Kaine has supported women's right to choose, even if he personally says he is against it. His voting record shows he supports women's rights.

There's not an argument in the first place, because it's a moot point. Kaine has a record of supporting abortion rights.

This. His own personal feelings on the issue are irrelevant; what matters is his voting record and that is overwhelmingly pro-choice.
