Re: Associations
I totally agree that the show relies on Peter too much. I loved young!Peter and his resurrection, but as much as I enjoyed him in 3A for selfish reason, he was superfluous to the story and they could've easily gone without him. I quit watching after 3A (well, the first episode of 3B, technically) because it was airing during the school year and I was falling out of love with it.
There are so many emotional storylines I'm disappointed the show never really delivered on, even early on in its run. Specifically? I hated how they glossed over Allison's reaction to Kate's death with one line about how "Well, she was evil, so I guess I'm not obligated to care." Like, she was. She was evil, but...that's...not...how feelings work? She thought of Kate as a sibling and they'd been super close all throughout Allison's 17 years of life. Those memories and feelings don't go away just because right at the end of Kate's life Allison learned/realized she was a terrible person.
Idk. Teen Wolf really is The Little Show That Could...Have Done So Much More. It had so much potential in those first two seasons but by season 3 it seemed like the show became more about adding new characters it didn't bother to develop in addition to neglecting the existing characters everybody loved in the first place. I'm glad it's ending. I'm surprised it lasted this long, what with all the behind the scenes drama, constant cast changes, and general WTF-ery of the writing in more recent seasons.
Re: Associations
You are totally right about Kate, and that's not something I see brought up much (if at all! Likely because everyone loathes Kate, so I guess they don't think she deserved any kind of mourning). And frankly, I hate Kate too, but again, like Peter she was a good villain. The actress was great, and despite the fact that she was evil, she was Allison's family. It isn't as easy as, "Well, this person was awful, so I'll just forget everything I've ever known about them." Even if you end up at a place where you're willing to accept that's who they were, it wouldn't be easy dealing with their loss, and there would be a lot of conflict, and sorrow, and feelings of betrayal along the way.
That's a good point. If TW had been written by someone else, I think it could've been a damn fine show, but there were so many problems with it (ignoring and glossing over important reactions, development, casting aside characters left and right, focusing on shit that just wasn't that important) that I can't truly be sad it's ending, because what it turned into wasn't the show I got so excited about.
