(Anonymous) 2016-07-26 01:58 am (UTC)(link)And the 1989 stuff is generally pretty opaque about it, at that point. Like, "Out of the Woods" is widely agreed to be about Harry Styles, sure. But when you compare it to something like The Story Of Us, it's a lot harder to read it as a specific statement about the nature of her relationship or her feelings about it after. The only song on 1989 that I would argue fits that pattern you're referring to is Bad Blood, which is not about a romantic relationship (at least as far as any of us know). The biggest Big Breakup Song on the album is Blank Space, which is not about any relationship. I don't think it's ridiculous to say that she's tailed that shit off dramatically as of 1989.
Also, most of those songs are fucking bangers, so, you know, that helps you get away with it
