When there's something important that the reader needs to know, I have a bad habit of putting it in a single sentence and not drawing any attention to it. I think that's part of why my stories are too short--every line means something, and nothing is wasted. Some folks say my stories encourage rereading, while others just say I'm unnecessarily confusing.

Then again, To Kill a Mockingbird only needed two easily-missed sentences, never brought up again, to reveal that the villain molests his daughter. That still blows me away all these years later.
