Marina Joyce

This is like Tumblr's version of the Boston Marathon Bombing manhunt. There are people who are convinced this girl is being held against her will while still making youtube videos. Even after the police, her mother, her brother, and herself has said she has fine. WTH.

Link? I have no idea what this is about.

Here is one post I saw on it. With the crazy and then reasonable people in replies. http://superserum.tumblr.com/post/148068362952/superserum-wisherbystarlight-kaynbred

WTF. Well, that is sure a thing I just read. *pours bleach into eyes* I only skimmed because the skeeze hit so hard, but the knuckles thing just honked me off. Because that's NOT what bruised knuckles look like when you've been pounding something.

Right? No, that is what normal knuckles look like. Especially for people who do any amount of manual labor.

Exactly! I mean, I've busted up my knuckles a few times, and seen other folks's hands when they've been punching people. The marks are pretty distinctive.

Yeak, I zoomed in and I see no bruises or wear on his knuckles.

Also, the barred window looks more like fancy leaded glass.

Crazy with a capital C, holy shit. That first girl idolizes the Columbine shooters/serial killers in general. Like, "wants to fuck them" idolize.

What really bothers me about all this: if this girl were being held captive by an abusive boyfriend or kidnapper, like these people think, making this huge fuss about it on her youtube page and the internet in general would almost certainly get her hurt even worse, or even killed.

Re: Marina Joyce

(Anonymous) 2016-07-27 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting point, although couldn't the same be said for any time someone goes missing (for real, in those cases) and there's a lot of coverage? What is the difference? Just curious.

I mean when someone just goes missing people don't really know that they are being held against their will? I don't know much about missing persons cases, but I have been in abusive situations, and in my experiences, people confronting your abuser often makes the abuse worse.

I just think, say, if an abusive boyfriend or whoever was as unstable as these people said, and was forcing her to act normal and keep making videos, everyone making a huge fuss about how she isn't acting normal and is (supposedly) sending out cries for help would surely alert the abuser to this as well, and just make her life harder if she can't actually get away from him

I just think, even if this isn't true, which it probably isn't, this is setting a bad precedent

(sa, I just want to make it clear I don't believe these people even though I used really diplomatic language here.)

Anon above covered a lot, but also: friends and family of the missing person organizing a search party and going, "Something is terribly wrong, please help us find such-and-so" is kinda different than a random anonymous stranger forming crackpot theories.

Also, like, one would hope that if my family and the cops think I've been kidnapped by an abusive friend/patner/relative, they would go about rescuing me a bit more subtly and with more regard to my safety than just blasting about it on TUMBLR of all places.

People are nuts, look at Larries who deny the existence of a real baby, and fans of Twilight who believe that the two main characters are in love with each other in real life and have a secret!baby. Fandom contains it's elements of kookoo-caca you know.

kookoo-caca is my favourite word this month.

I've been using it for years! It's a great word!

I can't believe I know things about this. Makes me feel like I've been interneting too long.

But honestly, it all comes across like a girl who's done one too many drugs (and she apparently has trichomoniasis, which would explain the bruising). Even the "bring a friend so you don't get lost" thing sounds an awful lot like a reference to psychedelics, particularly since the party in question is a rave.

Tumblr is a perfect playground for starting conspiracy theories and urban legends.
