Re: What's better on the cheap, FS?
Clothes. I love to look cute, but I buy bargain as much as I can and it's not a really high priority. I only go out shopping once or twice a year, and I do tend to enjoy it but I don't typically spend hundreds on those trips.
Makeup. I don't buy it at all except for cosplay. I just don't care. Don't like it on my face, don't want it. (Not judging those who do like it or spend money on it in case anyone wants to say that, but I'm glad it's not part of my budget) (nail polish on the other hand I love, but I don't own a whole ton and it's not that expensive overall. same with jewelry because I am 100% ok with imitation metals)
Air conditioning. I get why most people spend money on it - I do! But I don't get hot often and the few times I do my fan is sufficient. It'd be a huge bill for nothing, for me.
Fancy ass cars. Functional? Long-lasting? Yes, very important. Spending lots of extra money for fancy brand names or a ton of bells and whistles? nah. I genuinely think that even if I had a huge disposable income I'd still drive a Honda or Toyota. I might invest in a new one and tweak it a little, but I'd save so much money by not going for a designer brand.
Speaking of: designer brand clothes, shoes, bags. I love cute bags. I don't think most designer bags are cute, and I actually do judge people who buy (not fake) ones a little 'cause it feels like the only point in getting them is so everyone around you knows you're rich.
Wow, that comment was way longer than I thought it would be.

I'd get air-con if I thought I could afford it, but I can't, so summer is a matter of fans, keeping the house closed to preserve some of the cool air of the night before, avoid going upstairs too much (hot air rises), and cold showers.
I'd agree with you on cars too, but I don't drive so I'd never get one anyway.
As for clothing, the best buys I have ever found for my size (the upper end of common "plus size") is usually not designer stuff anyway. I'd have a hard time believing any of the designer brands cater to people of my size range anyway.

(I still don't spend any money on it at all outside of cosplay. Well, I have one tube of lip gloss for when I get really dressed up, but that's it.)
