Same.

I'm sure "nerdy girls" have it much worse.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-28 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure "nerds" of any gender have it that bad these days.

I mean, if you fit the old fashioned nerd stereotype (academically smart but having poor social skills and terrible fashion sense) you might not be too popular. But most people now who call themselves "nerdy" just mean that they like anime or video games, and there are loads of people who also like that stuff who you can be friends with, and it's not like such interests are really stigmatized that much.

This strikes me as a deeply pointless thing to say.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I agree with everything you said OP.
👍

I found him to be more crazy than nerdy (as in, he was an outcast because he was "the weird doomsday guy", not because he was nerdy, in particular). Although to be fair, I don't remember the plot that well.

Pretty much this. I just rewatched it, and I don't think I caught him picking out anyone in particular to blame. More like, he blamed the world. I wish he'd been fleshed out a little more.

He had to have been some kind of nerd to understand and exploit Erin and Abby's book.

For a moment I thought Slimer and the Staypuft Marshmallow Man had a really creepy baby.

LOL

(Anonymous) 2016-07-28 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
that is not the reason that kind of trifling bullshit from nerd dudes is wrong, man

And the nerdy girls standing up to him weren't just four conventional beauties with glasses.

...McCarthy is a conventional beauty? Leslie Jones as well?

They look great, but they are NOT conventional.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-29 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
I think that was meant honestly, as opposed to the many movies in which a "nerdy girl" is just a conventionally hot chick with glasses.

Don't forget the hair in a bun or ponytail!

LOL, I wasn't being sarcastic, if that's what you thought.

On the one hand, I'm a nerd girl stereotype. Not the cute kind. The other one. Short, fat, braces, glasses, hairy, no social skills or fashion sense... On the other hand, even though the villain was a guy who made an "I'm a lonely outcast" speech, I wouldn't have much sympathy for a girl doing what he did, either. I mean, that was a fucking ton of effort! Maybe if he put it towards a less creepy hobby that didn't involve muttering to himself and plotting vengeance, annhilation, and world domination, he wouldn't have alienated absolutely everyone.

I did see a post on tumblr in the tag where some guy was whining about how women can't handle critique and this is the kind of stuff nerds experiences in school and they got over it so why can't women - apparently oblivious that their are women nerds.

I hoped it was someone's poor attempt at satire, rolled my eyes and blocked them

(Anonymous) 2016-08-02 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
the only thing that wasn't great about him as a villain is that i feel they didn't go far enough with how frightening he was supposed to be? nothing after his first scene with leslie really measured up in terms of creepiness.
