I was seriously afraid "Monster Reunion" was going to fuck up and be offensive in how it depicted mental illness. In retrospect, I guessed wrong on the metaphor--I thought gem corruption was a metaphor for dementia, but it turned out to be a metaphor for PTSD.

I thought PTSD was something Centipeedle had in addition to her corruption. Pearl, Lapis, and arguably Peridot also seem to have PTSD and they're not corrupted, so I dunno... Corruption didn't register with me as a metaphor for any particular real mental illness.
