Re: RNC/DNC (trigger warning politics lol)

Huh. I don't actually see any disconnect between saying that America and Americans are terrible or (more accurately from where I'm standing) have things about them that are terrible, and saying that there are lots of reasons to be happy and hopeful--specifically, hopeful that those terrible things and those parts of all of us that are terrible can change for the better. I think that might be one of the differences between liberals and conservatives--liberals think that the best way to solve problems is to try something new, while conservatives think it's better to go back to the way we used to do things.

As for Trump, he is a fearmonger. He says America and Americans are great, and the only things preventing us from realizing that greatness are all these fearsome things like abortion access, environmental regulations, and people like Mexican and Muslim immigrants.

Liberals point to the flaws everyone, including them, need to overcome in themselves. Conservatives attack flaws in others that they supposedly don't share, and say if we only got rid of these laws or these people, everything would be better. We don't have to change. Everyone else does. So one side is a call for introspection and self-improvement, the other is a call to arms.

I believe everything you're saying about Republicans. It's why I've never identified as one.

But the picture you're painting of Democrats - and the one that the DNC is trying to promote - doesn't jive with the reality I've witnessed over the past few years. The picture I have is of so-called liberals silencing and demonizing those they disagree with, playing the victim, and blaming those with "privilege" for everything while never, ever admitting that marginalized groups sometimes work against their own interests and never taking responsibility for their own personal decisions when they can just point to a system of oppression as the root of all evil.

Democrats aren't really all that liberal. Sounds like you're conflating Tumblr SJWs with broader a liberal/progressive that just doesn't exist in that way at the national level.
