Re: REC ME COMICS QUICK

CrossGen is a company like DC or Marvel. Their directive was to create comics (in the early 2000s) that were not superhero-related. They had a core group of comics that centered around a god-like being who branded people with a sigil that gave them powers. Each sigil did different things but all upended the lives of those who got the sigil. There was an overarching plot about who this person was and what he was doing. Some of the comics tied into this but the degree to which it's necessary to follow that plot depends on the comic itself. Some are self-contained or only vaguely reference what's going on. There are also some comics that were not related to the CrossGen universe that were very good too, like a comedy title called The Crossovers.

Each CrossGen comic was for a different genre. The main four were a space opera title (Sigil), a magic title (Mystic), a fantasy title (Meridian), and a Arthurian title (Scion). Then they added a horror title, pirate title, samurai title, wuxia title, Sherlock-type title, Tolkien-type title, spy title, and Celtic title. I enjoyed them all and they're generally viewed positively from what I hear but I'm not very widely read with regards to comics in general. The company did go bankrupt so some stories are unfinished but the main four had over 40 issues each. I'd be happy to tell you more about any specific one if you'd like.

Well I guess I can find the main four online easily enough, but which ones would you say are best?

Ruse is usually considered a standout. I was actually really surprised by how much I liked Route 666 since I don't like horror but it's one of my favorites. Also, Meridian was another one that surprised me. I've heard more than one person who dismissed it because of the teen girl protagonist and then picked it up and really enjoyed it.

Negation and The Path are usually praised pretty highly but Negation is one of the titles that's tied tightly to CrossGen's overarching plot. I don't think you need to know other titles to enjoy it but it has been a while since I read it. The Path is usually praised because of its unique style. El Cazador is also praised. There are only 6 issues, so it was just getting started but it's also easy to get the whole thing. It does come in a TPB.

I generally feel that if you are already a fan of the genre of the title, you probably won't be disappointed. I know my favorites (Sigil, Sojourn, Mystic) are in my favorite genres so I can't really comment on quality.
