Me too. Pretty much everything about Elrond in the movies bugs me but his relationship with Aragorn does top the list. Elrond fostered a lot of Aragorn's line but he basically adopts Aragorn. It's clear in the text that their relationship is a lot closer than others in Aragorn's family tree. They are father and son for all practical purposes.

I personally would have found it more compelling if they'd stayed true to the book - to see Elrond torn because the man he loves as a son is going to take his daughter away forever but he does want them both to be happy. But, the movies can't have any complexities so...
