I think people voting for a third party candidate in the presidential race should just stay home. At least that will help save the environment when they go to uselessly vote for someone who has no chance of winning.

Even people who are Greens and were always going to vote Green, and aren't taking votes away from your preferred candidate?

The bitterness level of your position on this is unreasonably high.

But, like, what's the point of being Green other than to pat yourself on the back for being Green /half sarcasm half genuine question ?

Races besides the US presidency exist, and so do Green candidates for them. Mayors, city councils, municipal level politics.

I'm not a Green, but I don't go up to them and question why they are. Generally people don't do things for absolutely no reason.

Fair! But voting Green in the presidential election seems a little pointless, with all love to the Green party, its candidates, and its supporters.

What? I'm not voting. I don't like either candidate. There are some 3rd party people I would vote for. But it is stupid to. Just wasting time and gas.

Eh, if voting their conscience is what they want to do and they get fulfillment out of it, it may not be a waste to them like it is to you. Unless you're one of those people who think anything you don't enjoy or get fulfillment out of, is a waste of time for everybody?

They might vote for your party down-ticket, and just be lodging a protest vote against a candidate in one particular race. That happens, and it's normal. In extreme cases, third party candidates have become state governors due to it.

All that's unusual this year is for both major party candidates for US President to have so many voters planning to vote third party just to protest them.

I'll go you one further and say that a third party vote, a write-in vote, or not voting at all, are all de facto votes for Trump.
