OC hate really depends on the fandom. Some of the more OC friendly fandoms in my experience:

* "Western" RPGs and MMORPGs
* Star Trek and Star Wars roleplayers
* The Sims, although I have no idea if that's survived to Sims 4.

Also MLP. Some of the most popular awesome and well recced fic has OCs.

The one long plotty fic I've read for MLP, which I really enjoy, has some very interesting OCs in it!

Pokémon is as well.

I haven't been in it for a while, but Invader Zim used to be very OC friendly.
ext_18500: My non-fandom OC Oraania. She's crazy. (Default)

I don't see why Sims 4 would have destroyed OCs, you can still make your own characters in it, screencap their lives and write picture-filled posts about the events that happen to them.

I say this as someone who played S4 until I couldn't anymore (and then went back to S3 because it proved functional).

I never got into Sims 3 or 4, Sims 2 was always the one I considered "my" Sims game because it's the one I grew up with in my teens and several years ago I redownloaded it for nostalgia when it was downloadable for free but had to stop playing when the computer it was on broke and the free download offer had ended.

I never really drew my characters or posted and shared screenshots online, but I got pretty attached to them the same way people in fanfic communities get attached to their fancharacters. My friend and I had our own little "Fandom corner" of two where we would share stories about the misadventures of our Sims and would go over to each other's houses and show each other our Sims worlds. So I can clearly see how it could be an OC-based fandom.
