(Anonymous) 2016-07-30 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)Part of the premise of strawman arguments is that you set up an argument that's ridiculously easy to knock down because it's a ridiculous suggestion, which you're attributing to your opponent as part of discrediting them. Of course it's easier-- anyone can make up anything and attack that rather than any real, substantive argument. It's the whole point! You don't have to challenge your own beliefs at all, and you (think you have) made your opponent look dumber while you look smarter.
