That's a good idea, but also not very realistic for a lot of people. Credit is the only way I was able to get some much needed dental care, not to mention car trouble or travel for my academic program that my department wouldn't cover. It's the only way I was able to buy this laptop, which I actually need to work.

I get it's sometimes necessary. Ideally it shouldn't be, but things like dental car or car trouble is generally not something you plan for.

However, I've seen people buying say, a better TV on credit while the old one worked just fine, and it just makes me cringe. The worst things it's often used by those ho have less money, but things like that perpetuate poverty.
